time, energy, and motivation are the only limiting resources -> protect at all costs
my complete list of how to get more of these
A very capitalist take on why you should do anything to protect time, energy, and motivation:
→ the key to wealth is compounding
→ the key to compounding is longevity
→ the key to longevity is staying around long enough, and maintaining energy and motivation to keep going
I’ve been surprised, particularly given we’re bootstrapping Axlora, that money isn’t a particularly limiting resource. If you have a viable business model, you can make more money. But if you get tired of the slog or bored of the idea, you’ll stop compounding.
Practically speaking, I take this advice by protecting energy, motivation OVER day-to-day business needs if constrained.
My list of how to gain time, energy, and motivation (would love more suggestions! I do what I can, not all of these)
Energy
Work out (3x+ / week)
Eating healthy (more vegetables & fruit than you think you need)
Sleeping 8+ hours
Drink enough water
Time
Hire people who take actual work off your plate (train them to be good at this)
Hire people who take thinking work off your plate (institutionalize context)
Cleaners
Meal prep service if you don’t like cooking
Laundry service (is there a laundry service that hangs up items?)
Motivation
Friends
Hobbies/fun events (like spa days, concerts, travel, creative hobbies)
KPI based rewards (like upgrading home office supplies)
Disclaimer: I understand that many of these require money, but it’s not that money is the solution, it’s how you use that money to give yourself time, energy, and motivation. And to choose time, energy, motivation OVER money in the short run (e.g. use personal burn to give yourself motivation, don’t grow the business to give yourself energy)
Momentum I think is underrated. For losing tracking of time/ getting sense of flow reliably, this post has some ideas that could resonate: https://sharif.io/flow
